Designing a weight loss diet should be done should be with health in mind. Sound nutrition principles should contitute the basis of the diet. Much too often, ads propose diets that push health requirements aside and are in fact unhealthy or dangerous. Before designing a diet, one should establish nutritional goals and ensure that the resulting diet is healthy. Trustworthy sources of information are available. For example, the Johns Hopkins Center has published a very informative White Paper on weight loss and nutrition. They have also published an excellent guide titled “Losing Weight for Good”.

The USDA’s Food Pyramid is also a trustworthy source. The hM WEIGHT MONITOR has posted an article on its use: for weight loss purposes.

“Weight Loss Diets and the USDA’s Food Pyramid as a Safety Reference.”

Speaking with your doctor or dietitian may be advisable, especially if you have a health condition, such as diabetes. Assume that some degree of professional supervision is always best.
